GOLF CART USE and REGISTRATION
Based on your vote and a subsequent HOA Board request, on 10/3/2023 the Douglas County Board passed an ordinance allowing golf cars on streets in West Shores. Note that driving off road remains strictly prohibited!
The Douglas County ordinance, which allows golf cars to be operated on subdivision streets, is expressly subject to the limitations of Nebraska law, which allow golf cars to be driven between sunrise and sunset, at speed not exceeding 20 miles an hour. The operator of the golf car must have and carry a Class O operator’s license, for which you must be 17 years old. The owner of the golf car must have liability insurance of not less than $25,000 single person bodily injury, $50,000 two or more persons, and $25,000 property damage.
The West Shores covenants state that golf cars “must be registered with the Association, carry liability insurance and must display an Association sticker and Lot number.”
Registration procedures:
Stickers can be obtained for Janet Pol after approval of an online registration.
Once the two stickers are issued, they should be placed on a visible surface on BOTH sides of the cart (see pictures below).
Please, note that although UTV and ATV use was approved by the recent owner vote, due to county regulations they are currently NOT ALLOWED on our roads, and cannot be registered. Your HOA Board is working diligently to resolve this legal/administrative issue.
